Buying Used Dirt Bike Motorcycles
Oct/090
You want it to bad but you don’t have the cash to spare; what will you do now? No need to fret about not being able to buy a new one because there are used dirt bike sold at a good price and in good quality. However, if you don’t have much knowledge about getting this item, it is a smart idea to allow someone who has the right mechanical knowledge to go with you before buying. Remember that used items do not come with any warranty hence the time when they get damaged; you won’t have any choice but to spend your cash on the item for its repair. This is why it is vital for you to have someone who can rightly check the bike itself to ensure that it is in a good condition.
Below are your checklists in buying used dirt bike motorcycles:
1. Ensure that the chassis numbers were not scratched off yet because this may indicate a stolen bike.
2. Check for obvious damage like torn seat, broken plastics, worn tires, damaged handle bars, broken brake levers and clutch, and damage sprockets and chain.
3. Verify the frame by looking for cracks, old repair jobs, and fractures.
4. Look for cracks on the rims as well.
5. In case there are obvious grooves on the part where the pads would touch, it is a sign that the bike was used with care by its previous owner.
6. The radiator shouldn’t have cracks and bents. Be sure that it does not leak and is topped up.
7. Allow the bike to be in stand while having the rear wheel away from the ground. Move the rear of swingarm to verify its condition.
8. The fork seals must not leak. If they are, there will be oil traces on the front forks.
9. Etc.

In case the mechanic you are with confirms that everything is well, it is time to take a spin!
When starting the bike, check the compression within the kick start. In case the down stroke is soft, it is a sign that the piston is already worn out. But unless you already had ridden a number of bikes, this factor is something that you will fail to discern properly.
After then, listen to the engine. If could have a worn out motor if it produced loud and destructing sound. Again, this factor can only be discerned by someone with experience.
Above anything else, ensure that you are comfortable with the dirt bikes’ power deliver and its sense of “ride ability”. After all, you won’t be happy even if you have the most gorgeous bike among your neighborhood when you can’t ride on it properly.
So now that you know how to bike used dirt bikes properly, it’s time to prepare yourself for the fun and excitement that it will give you! Always make it a point to ride with safety thus buying the necessary gears is important. Also, ride slow when you are just starting as to prevent any accident.
